Menaggio is an elegant town on the western shore of Lake Como and right in the centre of town is where you'll find the historic palazzo that's home to Villa Marianna. The charming streets, shops, lake and lido of Menaggio are all just a short walk away from this stylish, luxurious holiday home.
Villa Marianna is a four bedroom apartment situated on the first floor of a palazzo that dates back to the early 18th century. The recent restoration of the palazzo has taken care to retain many of its original features. These include the entrance hall staircase that leads up to the apartment.
A sense of regal opulence is what characterises Villa Marianna over its two levels. From frescoed walls, antique pieces and tactile soft furnishings in the living/dining space, to the bathrooms with their indulgent freestanding tubs. Classic wood ceiling beams and floors create a warm, decadent feel throughout. And the mix of pop, vintage and modern art is a colourful surprise in many of the apartment's high-quality finish rooms.
Two double en-suite bedrooms are found on the main floor along with the living spaces. And descending down the historic stone spiral staircase will lead you to the other two double bedrooms. One of these is a dream for children of any age with its palatial twin beds and quirky features.
The grand living/dining room has everything you need for a cosy evening. Enjoy meals by soft chandelier light and curling up in front of the fireplace on cooler nights. The den is a sociable space that's light and airy by day and opens out to a private garden for al-fresco dining. Continue out through your garden into the palazzo's shared grounds, with landscaped areas and a lovely shared swimming pool on offer.
These grounds and your private outdoor spaces are the perfect areas to soak up wonderful lake and hill views. Step outside the palazzo and be strolling through the town's winding, cobbled streets in mere moments. The lake and lido are less than a 10-minute walk away.
Another easy-to-reach lakeside spot is the town of Tremezzo, which is home to the impressive Villa Carlotta and its botanical garden. And a 15-minute ferry ride from Menaggio are Villa Melzi and Villa Serbelloni in the picturesque town of Bellagio. Famous Como is around an hour's drive away.
Villa Marianna is perfect for a relaxed holiday, as the centre of Menaggio is just a five-minute walk away. You'll find a good choice of restaurants, bars and shops throughout the town and down towards the lake. The lido boasts facilities such as a sandy beach and swimming pools, along with plenty of other activities for the children.
There's also an 18-hole mini golf course by the lake and a larger course for serious golfers just outside the town. Lake Como is not only a lovely destination for idyllic swims and unwinding on pretty beaches. It's also a great place to try watersports like water-skiing and kayaking.
The lakeside promenade starts from Piazza Garibaldi and runs past an abundance of colourful houses and carefully manicured flower beds dotted with trees. Soak up the sights and sounds of the lake as you watch boats on the water, with the lush green hillsides a peaceful backdrop.
The shores of Lake Como are dotted with historic villas. A short drive away is Tremezzo, which is home to a palatial villa called Villa Carlotta. It boasts rambling gardens and an extensive art collection. The ferry journey from Menaggio to Bellagio takes just 15 minutes, with Villa Melzi and Villa Serbelloni just waiting to be explored.
Take a day trip to the city of Como and enjoy plenty of historic sightseeing. One of the city's architectural highlights is the Gothic cathedral, with the lakeside promenade a popular place to take a stroll. See the city from new heights as you journey up a mountainside on the funicular railway.
