Snaptrip says

Nurses Cottage in Hawkshead is a well-loved, quaint property with historical charm and modern comforts. Guests appreciate its excellent location, cosy atmosphere, and well-equipped kitchen. The property's cleanliness and thoughtful touches, such as welcome gifts, have been noted, although some guests mentioned minor maintenance issues and the suitability for taller individuals due to low ceilings.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The cottage is consistently described as clean and well-kept, with numerous guests highlighting its spotless condition. One mention of an unpleasant odour suggests an isolated incident rather than a common concern.

The location is highly praised for its convenience, being within walking distance to the village and ideal for exploring the Lake District. Its position is frequently cited as a highlight.

The cottage is generally regarded as cosy and comfortable. However, some guests noted issues with low ceilings and the suitability of the furniture, such as high bedside tables and a springy bed.

Facilities are well-regarded, especially the kitchen, though there are comments about the need for minor improvements such as better showers, hot water availability, and garden maintenance.

Guests have expressed gratitude for the welcome gifts and the cottage's overall well-equipped nature. It is important to note that such gifts are a kind gesture and may not be a standard provision for every stay.

About this property

This beautiful, early 18th century two-bedroom, two-bathroom cottage was given its name by Beatrix Potter, in honour of the nurse who cared for her mother. Dating back to 1702 this is a truly authentic cottage and the owners have lovingly and carefully refurbished the property, combining contemporary living with original features, like the original dated court cupboard. The cottage is a five-minute walk from picturesque Hawkshead, and Beatrix Potter’s former home is just a five-minute drive. Perfect for admirers and ideal for a family or group of couple

Step into the entrance hall and marvel at the original Westmorland panelling and court cupboard, before discovering your beautiful dining room, with antiques and subdued lighting. Walk into your sitting room and admire the 19th century antiques and spice cupboard, the attractive oak beams and the natural light flooding into the room. This room oozes with charm and elegance. The recently fitted breakfast kitchen has everything the home chef needs to create tasty meals for memorable family evenings. From the kitchen walkout to see your delightful and spacious cottage garden with pretty patio. You will also find a period walk-in larder and a utility area for drying, and storage of outdoor gear. Climb the stairs to find a charming square landing and discover two beautifully presented bedrooms: a double bedroom and a twin bedroom. You will also find two spacious bathrooms.

From your doorstep, you will have the choice of many superb paths and trails around the local area, as well as being in striking distance of some of the best hill walks in the National Park. Drive four miles to Grizedale to enjoy forest walks or bike rides and to take on the Go Ape experience.

For a relaxing day, drive five minutes to Hill Top Beatrix Potter’s former home or stroll to Hawkshead’s traffic free centre and visit the acclaimed Beatrix Potter Museum, run by the National trust. Explore the historic and the beautiful, grade 1 listed village church before visiting Wordsworth’s old school. After all that, relax with a drink in one of village’s excellent cafes or pubs.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.

Dining room had an overbearing smell of dead animals or something awful. Quirky house with lots of character but also lots of air fresheners to mask the stench of death. For those with no sense of smell, 5 stars.

The double bed was a bit of a squeeze with the high bedside tables, which we both banged our heads and elbows on and the bed was very springy, which meant we woke each other up when we turned over in the night, beside those two minor things, we couldn't have asked for a nicer cottage for our stay. Lovely clean and warm and the WiFi was brilliant. The welcome gifts were a really nice touch.
