The pretty Teesdale village of Staindrop has always been closely associated with the fortunes of nearby Raby Castle and its owners. The Castle (open to the public) is one of the most grand in England. Enlarged and beautified over the centuries, the medieval heart remains and a walled garden and 200 acre deer park add to the splendour. Staindrop has many interesting shops, pubs and cafes set round its long village green. The popular market town of Barnard Castle is 5 miles away, with its castle, the Bowes Museum, plus of course its wide range of shops and tea rooms. Walkers will enjoy the many walks around Teesdale.

The house is amazing and very clean, the beds are so comfy too and well what can I say about the kitchen "amazing" it has everything you can want the only downside I can say it that the Ice/water at the front of the fridge freezer wasn't in working order but parts were on order. However, there was a bag of ice left in the freezer so no issues at all. We arrived a wee bit early and were greeted by Angela the Housekeeper who was very friendly and forthcoming. We were able to leave cars on the drive and go off to explore. The hot tub was amazing, wasn't hot enough our first night due to a power surge in the garage but it was very welcoming in the morning to take a plunge so again not an issue, dressing gowns were also provided which was a huge bonus. We are looking at booking for next year and we wont take as much food with us next time. The local pub in Staindrop has a take away food van outside that is there I think on a Friday and Saturday night (Pub doesn't do food) so I think next time we will just order our food from there as you can eat it in the pub too. The house was immaculate with a very well equipped kitchen. The views are beautiful and the dog/kids loved playing in the paddock. We were warmly welcomed by Angela who was on hand throughout our stay, yet everything went so well. We would certainly return and recommend to others.
