About this property

A lovely modern cottage built from character stone, Hawthorn Cottage is ideally located in a tranquil spot overlooking the river, yet close to Kendal, Windermere and the Yorkshire Dales.

Beautifully crafted out of natural materials, this picture perfect cottage has been beautifully finished to a very high standard and is the ideal getaway for a family or small group of friends.

With all the accommodation on one level, Hawthorn Cottage has bags of character with wood beams, vaulted ceilings, window seats and a wood burning stove. The lovely living room combines country character with contemporary style, and there's a TV with DVD player and doors out to the garden. The huge kitchen/diner has a real wow factor and is fully equipped with a large range cooker and American style fridge/freezer with ice maker. The master double and twin bedroom both have gorgeous oak beams and the family bathroom has a bathtub with separate shower cubicle, vanity unit and WC. Hawthorn Cottage has been finished and decorated to an extremely high standard making it the ideal holiday retreat whatever the time of year.

The idyllic location of Hawthorn Cottage is just lovely, with the river babbling past the peaceful garden. This is a perfect retreat after a busy day's sightseeing where you can relax and watch the kingfishers and dippers dart across the water. There's also ample off road parking for your cars.

There's a pub at nearby Barrows Green and shops, bars and restaurants at Kendal which is just 2 miles away. But the real attraction of Hawthorn Cottage is its off the beaten track location on the banks of St Sunday’s Beck. There are numerous hikes and cycle tracks in the immediate countryside and the cottage is an ideal location for an exploration of the Yorkshire Dales as well as the spellbinding South Lakes.

The Lake District really is the ideal location for a family holiday. Explore the world of Swallows and Amazons from a Windermere steamer, or stop off and enjoy the enchanting world of Beatrix Potter. Animal lovers will enjoy the South Lakes Safari Park and the Aquarium of the Lakes, while keen walkers will want to venture further afield to some of the high fells to the North. And when you need to relax after a hard day's fun, the Lake District boasts some of the UK's top gastropubs and fine dining destinations.

With so much to see and do in Britain's favourite Country Park, character filled and luxurious Hawthorn Cottage is the perfect base to explore, whatever the time of year.

Sedgwick is a small, quiet village approx 4.5 miles south of Kendal. A historic Lakeland town with a fine reputation for shopping, Kendal nestles on the banks of the River Kent and is known as the Southern Gateway to the Lakes. Its old cobbled lanes and byways branch off the attractive main street, and the stone ruins of 12th Century Kendal Castle sit perched on a hill with views over the town.

Glass on fire was black, dust everywhere.Paintwork could do with freshening up in kitchen.Only enough logs for one day plus kinling.Left early because we were so disappointed.Took a cloth to the floor to wipe up tea spilt and it was black.SACK THE CLEANER if you have one.

The cottage was well equipped for all our needs. A short drive to Kendal and great access to all areas of the lakes. Was lovely to return to the peaceful courtyard, which was a suntrap, after a day out. Would definitely recommend.
