Shortner Croft is a well-regarded cottage in the Peak District & Derbyshire Dales, praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and thoughtful touches. Guests appreciate its peaceful location, ideal for exploring the countryside with nearby walks and local amenities. The property is well-equipped, and the owners' responsiveness to feedback is noted. While there are minor criticisms, the overall sentiment is highly positive, with many guests planning return visits.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The cottage is consistently described as spotlessly clean, with several reviews highlighting the cleanliness as a standout feature. One review mentioned a minor issue with crumbs and dirt under the kitchen table, but this seems to be an isolated incident.

The location is frequently praised for its tranquillity and proximity to walking and cycling trails. It is described as peaceful and ideal for exploring the Derbyshire countryside. However, some guests noted the access lane to be poorly maintained, which slightly impacts the score.

Many reviews mention the comfort of the cottage, with comfortable sofas and beds noted. However, one review cited hard mattresses and pillows, and another mentioned low sofas, which suggests comfort levels may vary for different guests.

Facilities are generally well-received, with the property being well-equipped. However, there are comments about disorganised kitchen cupboards and a fridge/freezer issue. The presence of a new dishwasher and other amenities is positively noted, but the mixed feedback on kitchen organisation affects the score.

Guests frequently mention the thoughtful touches, such as wine and cookies, which contribute to a welcoming atmosphere. It is important to note that while these gifts are appreciated, they are not guaranteed for every stay.

Very comfortable, clean and well equipped. Great location with superb local walks and within easy drive to Bakewell, Buxton and Ashbourne.

  • Colin

It was extremely clean. The only point I would make is that the kitchen needs to have blinds fitted to the windows.

  • Caroline

Clean and comfortable and well equipped. The bed was very comfortable. The cottage is superbly well located for walking and there are so many other places of interest worth visiting. Hope to come back again.
