Snaptrip says

Casterbridge is a well-regarded holiday cottage in Weymouth, appreciated for its spaciousness, comfortable beds, and peaceful location. Guests have enjoyed the property's proximity to local attractions and the coast. While some maintenance issues and cleanliness concerns were noted, the overall experience has been positive, with many guests willing to return.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Cleanliness scores are generally high, with several reviews mentioning the property as clean and well-maintained. However, some guests reported issues with cleanliness, such as dust, dead insects, and dog hair, which slightly lowers the score.

The location is highly praised for its peaceful setting and proximity to local towns, the coast, and dog walking opportunities. It is considered ideal for exploring the Dorset coast and enjoying the tranquility of the village of Upwey.

Comfort is consistently highlighted, with guests finding the property warm, comfortable, and the beds particularly comfy. Some guests faced issues with heating and shower facilities, but overall, the comfort level is rated highly.

Facilities are generally good, with adequate parking and spacious living areas. However, several reviews mention a lack of kitchen equipment, issues with appliances, and the need for better maintenance in communal areas, which affects the score.

While some guests appreciated the welcome pack and the owner's communication, there is insufficient information to score thoughtfulness accurately. No specific mentions of gifts were noted, and as such, they cannot be guaranteed.

About this property

This area features a fitted kitchen, a welcoming sitting area and a dining area, and also on the ground floor is a modern bathroom and two zip/link king-size double bedrooms. Up on the first floor is another king-size double bedroom, and all bedrooms have the bonus of Smart TVs. Open up the glass doors to your own private patio, or venture out to the shared garden with views to farmland. A beautiful cottage with plenty to see and do in the area. The picturesque village of Upwey lies just four miles north of Weymouth, nestling beneath the Dorset Ridgeway, and takes its name from the shallow chalk stream, the River Wey, which bubbles up here from an underground spring. Upwey is well-known for its Wishing Well, where George III once sought the benefits of the natural spring water. It is now a delightful tea room, serving lunches and traditional cream teas. There are a number of footpaths leading directly from the village to miles of unspoilt countryside, and close by is the market town of Dorchester, Thomas Hardy’s ’Casterbridge’. An easy drive or bus ride takes you to the popular seaside resort of Weymouth offering visitors glorious golden sandy beaches, excellent watersports facilities and a bustling harbour. An attractive village location and an ideal place to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

High ceilings give it a very large feel. There was 3 bedrooms so no arguments from our 2 sons as they got their own room with a smart tv which they were very happy about as they don’t have one at home. Upwey is a lovely location, watery lane is just that in wet weather but not so bad you can’t drive along it. Quiet location close to amenities. Easy to walk the dog around. We were left essentials like tea, coffee, washing up liquid, hand wash, sponges, toilet roll etc. Dog bowls and poo bags were also provided. We took our own crate but this can be provided I believe if you can’t take one. Would definitely stay again.

We thought as 2 bedrooms downstairs with bathroom that this would be a wet room or shower but it's an over bath shower with no handrails, not safe enough for mom or us really to shower but we made do. The decking is small so the 6 seater table and chairs can't really be used to full potential. A few maintenance issues we reported split in bath seal found on entry, dishwasher only washed clean on bottom rack, freezer on overdrive and needs defrosting, washer drier not great. But we would stay there again and we did enjoy our break. Reported issues to Helen but we asked for them to be remedied on our exit. With a few upgrades and changes this could reach 5 stars.
