The Monsal Trail has just undergone a major overhaul, all of the 6 tunnels between Buxton(Blackwell Mill) and Bakewell were opened in May 2011, and we now have a perfect car free route for Bikes, Walkers, and Pushchairs along the 6 miles (12 miles return) from the Wriggly Tin to Bakewell and back. The route has opened up more breath taking views lost with the closure of the Railway line, and there are new information points along the track to add even more interest.
The area is full of history for you to discover, Industrial history with the advent of the Railways and the disused Limekilns, and the local cotton mills of Litton Mill and Cressbrook. There is Medieval History at ‘The Catherdral of the Peak’ in Tideswell dating back to 13th Century. We have Castles to explore at Castleton and Bolsover. Eyam with indepth details of the plague transported to here from London in 1665 and contained within the village. Buxton and Matlock are both Victorian Spa Towns.
