A Harbour: full of yachts and fishing boats, narrow streets climbing the steep hillsides and spectacular views, Porthleven has long been that happy Cornish mix of fishing port and holiday resort. A happy mix of working village and holiday centre, Porthleven offers a variety of accommodation and you'll find restaurants, pubs, galleries and gift shops trading alongside fishmongers and chandlers. The Beach: - a small, mainly shingle beach in a bay backed by cliffs. It is home to the Porthleven Reef Break. Only experienced surfers should use this break. For the reef to kick in it needs a big south or south westerly groundswell with a light north to north-east wind smoothing the wave face. Paddle out by the harbour channel to the reef on the right. Low tide is a definite no-go as the waves get super hollow and the reef is just too exposed. Wildlife And Walks: There is a coastal path running both east and west from Porthleven though extreme care should be taken when walking to the east towards Loe Bar. Basking sharks, seals and dolphins may be seen in the area.
