Around and About
The region boasts miles of unspoilt, golden-sanded beaches and stunning countryside. Situated within this county are two areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the rugged Northumberland Park. Northumberland also hosts the greatest number of castles than anywhere else in Britain and the Island of Lindisfarne is said to be the birthplace of British Christianity. Bamburgh is a charming village made up of stone houses and located close to the sea. It has its own castle which was completely restored in 1900, which houses collections of antique china, porcelain, furniture, paintings, weapons and armour and is open to the public. Many of the area's attractions are easily accessible from Bamburgh, such as the Farne Islands and Dunstanburgh Castle. Bamburgh is also served by a number of shops, in addition to some pubs and restaurants of high reputation.
Northumberland is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian's Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife.
